PUBLIC ClassES

You do not need to be a member of Ideaworks to take our classes. Click on the name or "Show details" for a description, prices, and times.

Ideaworks’ approach to learning differs from classrooms where books and theory take precedence. At Ideaworks, we take the learning process into the shop or studio and experience learning through our hands.

We believe in encouraging a hands-on approach with a clear emphasis on safety, skill, and process. This foundation enables students to build on their interests personally and professionally. After initial classes, members will find infinite possibilities to explore and refine their abilities at Ideaworks.

Young people are welcome in most of our classes, but please note that a parent or designated adult may be required to accompany minors under the age of 18. Feel free to call or email for clarification. -Thanks

This introductory class focuses on wheel throwing and basic glazing. It is perfect for a group of friends, family, couples or even by yourself (you will make friends in this class, we promise). In this class, you will be learning the basics of forming a ball of clay into a beautiful vase, cup, mug, bowl, or plate using an electric potter's wheel. If you’re feeling especially inspired to take on more… how about a bird feeder or planter!?! The possibilities are endless with pottery.

All materials will be provided. Additionally, the items you create go home with you to share with your friends and family. All items made are food, dishwasher, and microwave safe.

              What Not to Wear:

              • Do wear comfortable clothing that is easily laundered.
              • Please trim fingernails short. Long nails make manipulating clay on the potter's wheel very difficult. Similarly, rings, bracelets, and wristwatches will damage your creations.
              • Do not wear any dangling jewelry or lanyards that can get caught in machinery.
              • Do not wear clothing with loose sleeves or draped or dangling elements that can get caught in machinery
              • No open toe shoes (anywhere in the facility)

              We will provide
              all materials for class projects.

Upon completion of the class, Ideaworks members may be certified to use the covered ceramics studio tools unsupervised during business hours.

This is an introductory course on how to use the CNC machine with an emphasis on safety. In this class, you will examine the entire work flow of the CNC process, learn how to import geometry, investigate certain editing techniques, and the necessary requirements to create the g-code for tool calibration.  This final process will include setting feed and speed, how to input specifications of the raw material, etc. Finally, students will be able learn how to setup the device, how to load and secure materials, and how to set the home position and run a simple job.  This introductory class does not include any Computer Aided Design (CAD) instruction.

This unique class provides information and techniques that differ from those used on other CNC machines at Ideaworks. Upon completion of this introductory class, students will have earned their Programming Level 1.  Programming Level 2 can be earned after running a minimum of 5 successful jobs while under instructor supervision.  This level includes programming and operation.

Certification on other similar machines does not grant permission to use others. Ideaworks members who have completed another Ideaworks CNC certification may register for this course at the "I Want More!" rate.

Upon completion of this introductory class, students will have earned their Programming Level 1.  Programming Level 2 can be earned after running a minimum of 5 successful jobs while under instructor supervision.  This level includes programming and operation.

Unsupervised access will be determined by instructor approval only.
